Good Practice Toolkit

The links below highlight examples of Good Practice and include a range of templates, letters, prompt lists, checklists that can support new and experienced advisers with the frontline delivery of debt advice. These have been designed and developed in collaboration with the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) and the wider sector including Good Practice that has been identified during the MaPS Debt Advice Peer Assessment Scheme.

These examples of Good Practice include:

  • Letters to creditors includes letters requesting interest is frozen & requests for a copy of credit agreements.
  • Prompt lists to support advisers with holding conversations with bailiffs / enforcement agents.
  • Checklists to assist advisers with being clear on what information to request from a Local Authority for a client who has council tax arrears.
  • Templates to enable advisers to gather the correct information when exploring debts with clients and to support advisers with writing up case notes from a client interview.
  • In addition, guidance for debt advisers advising on ‘Maximising Income’ is also available. This guidance will assist managers and advisers on what level of advice should be given for ‘maximising income’ as part of the debt advice process, this has also been developed and designed by members of the advice sector.
